ressmex Posted 11 August , 2006 Share Posted 11 August , 2006 I found this book in a cut price book store for £2.00. I found this book to be one of the best reads I have had for a while, Patrick's descriptions of daily life in the trenches gives a great feeling of being their. I feel the whole book even though it is supposed to be a novel was one that is truly believable. any comments? TOM

ressmex Posted 11 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 11 August , 2006 It is prited in the cover that it is thought that Patrick wrote parts of the book whilst in the trenches and that the main character is himself. TOM
squirrel Posted 14 August , 2006 Share Posted 14 August , 2006 More autobiographical than novel - also look out for Red Horizon - his expereiences after arriving in France in 1915 and through to Festubert.

swizz Posted 17 August , 2006 Share Posted 17 August , 2006 I enjoyed reading this book too - the style of writing is quite different to other memoirs that I've read. Its been a while since I read it though - might have to go back and give it another go! Swizz
