The_Historian Posted 25 October , 2003 Share Posted 25 October , 2003 hiya, looking for help in identifying three earthworks at sheriffmuir. they are on the slopes of glentye hill, near the atlantic wall complex from ww2. two of them are circular, with "arms" in an inverted y shape superimposed at three points. they look remarkably similar to the shape engraved on the metal plates on top of os triangulation pillars, except that the earthworks are about 20 yards in diameter! my first instinct was bombing markers for aircraft, but they don't appear to be pointing at anything. near them is an hexagonal earthwork, similar diameter, which might or might not be contemporary, and none of these features is more than six inches high. i have been told that these are practise infantry positions from ww2, but i don't know how accurate this is. can anyone shed some light? regards, gordon
Geoff Parker Posted 27 October , 2003 Share Posted 27 October , 2003 Gordon I will ask a friend who's very knowledgeable on the defences around the UK. Meantime try this site: http://www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/ You can always email them your question. Geoff
