King's Regulations, Paragraph xvi "No longer physically fit for service" this was usually noted either 'sickness' or, as in this case, 'wounds'.

List - this refers to the Silver War Badge Roll.

He would have been entitled to the "For Services Rendered" Silver War Badge in addition to his medals.

Thanks for the quick reply ken.

One bit that had me confused was the cause of discharge, I thought it read 1C. R now you have explained it's easy to see K.R.

Thanks again z4.

If you obtain the SWB Roll page from the NA it may {not always} give an exact cause{eg:wnd r.arm,l.leg,etc:}

SWB;List TJ/222.

it will certainly give enlistment & discharge dates,unit discharged from ,sometimes age; & if served O/S.

Bearing in mind he was discharged due to wounds he should have another Medal Card with his campaign medals on it.

Here we go. No doubt not an unusual mispelling.

Medal card of Hayward, Fred

Corps Regiment No Rank

Cheshire Regiment 1458 Private

Probably the one with the most documentation & physical evidence to back it up,the Medal Rolls/SWB list pages; might help to confirm it as would his Papers if they survive.
