Aurel Sercu Posted 24 October , 2003 Share Posted 24 October , 2003 Who can tell me : How are the Medal Index Cards (MIC) at the PRO ordered ? Alphabetically ? By regiment ? Or ... ? (My problem : if only by regiment, then how to find them for a soldier of who the regiment is not known ?) Aurel
Chris_Baker Posted 24 October , 2003 Share Posted 24 October , 2003 Aurel They are ordered by the soldiers name, in alphabetical order, although this is more complex than it sounds. The sequence example given in William Spencer's "Army Service Records of the First World War" is a good one. It goes like this. Jones J. (Yes, many MICs only have an initial, not a full Christan name...) Jones, James Jones, John ... ... ... (all Christian names beginning with J would be in sequence, where there is only one Christian name, then...) Jones J.A. Jones James A. Jones John A. ... Jones J.B. Jones John B. ... ... Not easy I can tell you.
Aurel Sercu Posted 24 October , 2003 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2003 Thanks, Chris. Alphabetically ? That's good news. Another piece of good news : my soldier is not a Jones. And today really must be my lucky day, for he's not a Smith either ! Aurel
