Wingene Posted 31 July , 2006 Share Posted 31 July , 2006 Hello, can anybody confirm these facts? Or does anybody has more details about the facts? Udet was in command of Jasta 37 from summer 1917 until march 1918. In Oct,Nov,Dec 1917 he flew with Albatros D III 2132/16 then he got an accident (early 1918) and he received a new plane an Albatros D.Va Is there anybody that has the serialnumber of the Albatros D.Va? there is also a picture of him on this website: http://jasta37.tripod.com/Main.htm is it possible that this is not a Albatros DII but THE Albatros D.Va? greetings
Bob H Posted 31 July , 2006 Share Posted 31 July , 2006 Definitely not a DII as that model had separate parallel interplane struts. From the DIII on all had 'V' struts. With that lower fin, it's probably a DV or DVa Regards Bob
Wingene Posted 31 July , 2006 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2006 Bob, thank you for the information! So when this is a DV or DVa and Ernst Udet got his DVa in early 1918 then it must be a picture on the airfield of Wynghene, because he was commandant of Jasta 37 since 7 Nov 1917 until 15 Mar 1918. regards
Cnock Posted 1 August , 2006 Share Posted 1 August , 2006 Hello Wingene, The Albatros on the website is definitely an Albatros DVa, flown end of 1917 by Udet, thus very possibly at Wingene. Regards, Cnock
Cnock Posted 1 August , 2006 Share Posted 1 August , 2006 Udet flew with Jasta 37 from 19/7/1917, and was in was in command of Jasta 37 from 13/11/1917 until 23/3/1918, when he went to command Jasta 11. Regards, Cnock
Cnock Posted 13 August , 2006 Share Posted 13 August , 2006 Hello Wingene, I did some more enquiries. UDET was flying Albatros DV nr. 4476/17 in autumn 1917 at Wingene. Serial nr of his 'black' Albatros DVa was propably 5368/17. As Jastaführer there is a chevron painted on each side of the nose instead of a number In attachment, Udet pictured at Wingene seated in his Albatros DV 4476/17. Wingene Posted 16 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 16 August , 2006 Hello, there seems to be a photo of a plane crash in the book: "Kreuz wider Kokarde. Jagdflüge des Leutnants Ernst Udet. " if someone can scan this photo and post it? the photo is almost certain from the black Albatros from LO when he was with Jasta 37 at Wynghene (Wingene). The crash was probably on 18 or 19 October 1917 regards
