Simon Jones Posted 26 July , 2006 Share Posted 26 July , 2006 Paul Nash was commissioned into the Hampshire Regiment and served on the Western Front from 22 February 1917 until he broke his rib on 25 May, apparently in the line near Hill 60. His battalion subsequently is said to have lost heavily attacking Hill 60. Does anyone have any idea of which battalion? thanks Simon
Audax Posted 26 July , 2006 Share Posted 26 July , 2006 Simon, This might be his MIC : http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1 Of course he served he served in the Artist Rifles before joining the Hampshires. Useful biographical notes here http://fineart.ac.uk/artists/114/ - Which only mention his gazetting to the Third Battalion, The Hampshire Regiment. Simon Jones Posted 26 July , 2006 Author Share Posted 26 July , 2006 Thanks, Audax Yes, that would be his MIC. The 3rd Bn was of course the [Regular] Reserve Bn which might suggest he was posted to the 1st Bn but not necessarily. Simon
