Michael Lowrey Posted 22 July , 2006 Share Posted 22 July , 2006 John, The obvious place to start is the cwgc.org -- the Commonwealth War Grave Commission's website. Do a search by name, World War I casualty and service to get some basic details. For example, GABBETT, EDMOND POOLE, Lieut-Commander, Royal Navy died at age 29 on 22/09/1914 on HMS Cressey http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=3049015 WILSON, DOUGLAS HENRY VERNON, Lieutenant, Royal Navy, died at age 29 on 26/11/1914 on HMS Bulwark. Son of an admiral! http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=3057137 RICHARDSON, WILLIAM FRANCIS, Captain, Royal Engineers, died at age 37 on 07/02/1920. http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=428300 Your F. Elliot may well be ELLIOTT, FRANK, Able Seaman, Royal Navy, died at age 24 on 14/01/1917 on HMS Vixen. Service number J/178. http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=389072 Can't find a matching Venn. There are 15 T. Harrises listed, so RNR etc. and not RN. johnbeales Posted 23 July , 2006 Author Share Posted 23 July , 2006 Thank you Michael and Charles. Interesting to confirm that many of the names on the church scroll are casualties, though they are not on the war memorial.
