Photos of WW1 aircraft from old negatives and a question

There is an Ian Allen Pub book: "Bomber Squadron at War" (don't recall author) which is a history of 101 squadron. I have a copy and will get it out when I get home and have a look through. It covers WWI and WWII but has quite a few identified group pictures in it.

Hi Chris, I ordered a copy of 'Bomber Squadron at war" and got it a couple of days ago. Thanks so much for putting me onto this book, it details a lot of what 101Sqd was doing 1917-1918 so I now know quite a bit of what Walter was doing. Plus it mentions 23-4-1918 2-Lts Preston and McConville (pilot and observer) bombing an ammunition dump near 'Rosieres' creating 'a great explosion and tremendous blaze followed by further explosions' the fire served as a useful landmark for the squadron for raids throughout the night.

The rest of the book looks to also be very interesting so am looking forward to reading the rest.

l also found another marriage of a Millicent A Tatton-Tatton in 1930 in Portsmouth (England), may or may not be the same woman

I found a couple more; This print has written on the back:

This is a crash by a mad young Canadian, he tried to land but was too near the sheds so zoomed over them hit an artesian well plant & came down into this hut, wings and tail he left outside but took the rest in with him, quite an exciting trip.

"This is how he woke the men up at 5.30am, not much left of the machine, but the pilot was uninjured, one man in the hut had 3 ribs broken, thats all!

The sargeant in the picture is a chap from Stanmore named Russell, he and I had good times together at Beaulieu. Pilots seat right on right of picture.

They do look a bit put out.

No wonder. Knowing the Army , they are about to charged for "Barrack-room damages".

My son's great great uncle is Arthur Eden Reed. I'm doing research to add information to the genealogy site on Arthur Reed and you seem to have quite a few references to him and his friendship with your great uncle Walter Preston. If you're still out there and your daughter-in-law has managed to make digital copies of some of the photographs, I'm very interested in copies as well as any stories you might have about that friendship.

Hi Tracy, I don't know if 'Pud" Reed, a South African was Arthur Eden Reed, I'm only guessing from the date he was in flying school. If he had a crash there and his nickname was Pud, he was friends with Walter and there are some photos of him. Sadly photobucket is now blurred and I cannot even get in there. I'll see if I can find the discs with the scans.
