Roy Evans Posted 17 October , 2003 Share Posted 17 October , 2003 The was a poem of the name by Herbert Cody. Don't know if that's the one you want but it may be another lead. Roy

Sue Light Posted 17 October , 2003 Share Posted 17 October , 2003 Tony I think what you have in mind is the song 'The Trumpeter', words and music by Raymond Newell and Ian Swinley. It is performed as a sort of mini 'operetta' - each verse starting with the words - 'Trumpeter...what are you sounding now...is it the call I'm seeking,' and it follows the men into battle - Reveille, the Charge etc. and ends with the names of the fallen being called - Trooper Jones...Trooper Richards....L/Cpl Jackson....... I have it on the CD 'Your Country Needs You - Music from the Great War 1914-1918' in the IWM edition. Regards - Sue [Just listening to 'The Boys of the Old Brigade' - Great!]
John_Hartley Posted 17 October , 2003 Share Posted 17 October , 2003 What's a trumeter then? Also known as an "accurate meter". Usually used to record pedantry. Your post only recorded a 3. Not up to your usual standard, David. John
