ajsmith Posted 3 July , 2006 Share Posted 3 July , 2006 I'd be interested in forumites views on the attached MIC for 2nd Lt Austin F Forshaw my cousin. He survived the war as far as I can tell (Not on CWGC). I understand the basics of the cards but it seemed strange that he appears to have transferred from the Kings Liverpool to the RGA and from 2nd Lt to Smith Gunner(not a rank I have seen before). All the cards I've studied read upwards in time, though I'd bet that that's not always the case. Any insights from people with knowledge of either of these units would be much appreciated. I think he was a clerk in civilian life, though interestingly his grandfather had been a blacksmith in Liverpool. thanks MICForshaw.doc
SteveE Posted 3 July , 2006 Share Posted 3 July , 2006 Tony He transferred not from the King's Liverpool to the RGA but the other way round. MIC's tend to read downwards in time, i.e. first unit served with at the top and so on, although not always the case. His medal entitlement is also off an Officer's roll which suggests this was his last unit. Hope this helps. Steve
ajsmith Posted 3 July , 2006 Author Share Posted 3 July , 2006 You're right Steve. I did a more systematic sample of the MICs on my disk and actually only one has the movement from unit to unit 'upside down', of course it was the one I looked at when interpreting this card. I didn't know about the officer's rolls so that was very useful. Thanks
