montbrehain Posted 3 July , 2006 Share Posted 3 July , 2006 I have just watched Leo Mckerns 1976 BBC TV program "Battle of the Somme" and i,d forgotten just how good it is ! For my money its probably the best of all the documentaries on the subject? and yet its not really a documentary as such. Allthough I had an interest before i saw this program, It was my watching and taping of this in 1986 that prompted my first visit to France and the Somme in 1987. I dont know if its available on DVD ? But take it from me ,If you can get your hands on a copy you wont be dissapointed
Derek Robertson Posted 3 July , 2006 Share Posted 3 July , 2006 To my mind it is the best documentary ever produced. Leo McKern was a cracking narrator of a very interesting script.
