historydavid Posted 2 July , 2006 Share Posted 2 July , 2006 Can anyone identify the German aircraft that bombed and missed the mail steamship Galway Castle near the Gull lightship on August 3rd, 1916, please? Best wishes David
MikeW Posted 6 July , 2006 Share Posted 6 July , 2006 David, there were no recorded attacks against the mainland by German Aircraft on the 3rd August 1916, however, on the night of the 2nd/3rd, six German airships attacked East Anglia. One, L31, managed to get lost and ended up over Kent, it dropped some bombs in the sea off Dover. Might this be the perpetrator? Mike
historydavid Posted 6 July , 2006 Author Share Posted 6 July , 2006 Mike, thankyou for taking the time to look at your records and thanks for making that suggestion. It certainly seems a likely possibility. Best wishes David
