Remembered Today:

ANOTHER STRANGE ONE

One of my casualties, Pte Charles Lincoln (1st Essex) joined in October 1914. Initially he was a Norfolk but was transfered to the Essex along with some hundred or so of 3rd Norfolks. En route to Gallipoli he was sunk aboard HT Royal Edward.

His MIC has him down solely for the British War Medal. I suppose 'technically' he didn't serve in a foreign theatre (although the ship did call in at Alexandria) as he never got ashore but surely this has been an oversight by an overworked clerk somewhere and he must have been elidgable for a 15 trio.

Can anybody shed any light on this please.

Thanks in advance.

You would need to check with the other Casualties who died on the Ship,& see if they too only received the BWM,technically it may be he correct issue,if they hadnt arrived in Theatre, the BWM would have covered the "Left Home Shores" qualification.

An interesting project.

Thanks for the tip Harry.

I've re-posted in 'Soldiers" and had a fast and helpful response.
