ttd0 Posted 12 October , 2003 Share Posted 12 October , 2003 Just bought a British War Medal and Victory Medal to a Pte of the Wiltshire Rgt who was killed in action in October 1914. He was in the same Bn as my Gt Gt Uncle. My Gt Gt Uncle was taken as a POW in the same action as this man was killed. All my relatives' Great War Medals have vanished so this is a good link with them. I do have a 1914 Star named to a Wiltshire Pte only 4 numbers away from my Gt Gt Uncles Regt Num. Can't help wondering what happened to the 1914 Star with clasp that would have been awarded with the War & Victory Medal. Tim
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 12 October , 2003 Share Posted 12 October , 2003 Noce one - well done. Ever thought of using 'Medaltracker' in Medla News Magazine or their website? Ian
David_Bluestein Posted 12 October , 2003 Share Posted 12 October , 2003 Good find, I have had a similar experience: Purchased the 1914-15 Trio to a 'Pte. Thomas' 1st Londons (RF), Killed on Sept. 15, 1916; in the SAME action, and in the SAME unit as my great uncle was killed. They may very well have known each other? Not having my uncles medals in our family, Pte. Thomas helps fill that void.
