Mark Hone Posted 11 October , 2003 Share Posted 11 October , 2003 Sorry to be cheeky-not World War One, but CWGC connected. Can anyone confirm the actual Latin wording on the Groesbeek Memorial near Nijmegen? The English translation is usually given as 'We live in the hearts of friends for whom we died'. Unfortunately according to my wife (who is a classicist of no mean repute) the Latin wording given in the Holts guidebook 'Pro Amicus mortui amicis vivimus' not only doesn't mean that, it doesn't even make sense. I need the reference for my battlefield tour guidebook which is about to roll off the presses!
