Stebie9173 Posted 10 June , 2006 Share Posted 10 June , 2006 TIMES OBITUARIES In looking for various officers obituaries it seems a shame that the ones I don't need to look at are passed over, so I will try and post as many pages of obituaries as I find. These will be in random order. I will save these and post the images, for a short time only as these will need to be uploaded off forum, but leave the names of the men (and women) posted on this thread, so people can request a repost as needed. To be continued... Steve.

Jim Clay Posted 10 June , 2006 Share Posted 10 June , 2006 Sorry to interrupt your thread, Steve, and I will remove this - but couldn't help seeing this (the name jumped out some how) in post #2. How DID the family cope? A tale repeated so many times of course, but such a sad story. Jim
JulianB Posted 10 June , 2006 Share Posted 10 June , 2006 Many libraries now have the Times Digital Archive. Its "searchability" is a bit like the LG - takes getting used to - but extremely useful. You can find obituaries etc etc etc .....
Stebie9173 Posted 10 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 10 June , 2006 Many libraries now have the Times Digital Archive. Its "searchability" is a bit like the LG - takes getting used to - but extremely useful. You can find obituaries etc etc etc ..... The vagaries of Search is one of the reasons I'm posting these extracts. There are a lot of obituaries in there that might never be found. The even smaller type of the Times scans makes the search even more hit and miss than the Gazette! Hopefully, people will find them useful for researching particular regiments, and it will eventually form an index of sorts. No need to delete Jim. There are so many tragedies. It still effects me to see these descriptions of lost lives. In researching some of the surviving officers of the Northamptonshires, so many of them left a strong legacy, that I often wonder what contribution these men would have made had they lived. The good old "Lost generation" chestnut. Steve.
