I can't find the MIC info on Sapper Arthur William Upward. R.E could have been in the inland waterways and docks. I have got his name from his S.W.B. but that doesn't give his army number. Please help.

Your title and body text don't tie up, is it 'Upworth' or 'Upward' you can't find?

There's this one for an Arthur Upward

Medal card of Upward, Arthur

Corps Regiment No Rank

Scots Guards 8970 Private

Royal Engineers 317521 Private

Royal Engineers WR/300293 Sapper

Link to card is Here

Nothing at all for any Upworths.

Regards

Steve

Doh my error it is Upward. Must be late in the evening.

Arthur Upward R.E

Do you know what the WR means in front of 300293 and why is one engineer a private the other a sapper I thought they were all without rank were sappers in the Royal Engineers.

I, like yourself, though that all Engineers (of the equivalent rank to Private) were Sappers (or Drivers), perhaps the clerk filling out the card got carried away entering Private as a rank or it's been transcribed wrong when it's been put online.
