Guest peardrop Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 I know my grandfathers Regiment, Army numbers, where he served in WW1, when he came home etc. My question is IS THERE ONE DOCUMENT that will help me find his DOB? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks, Peardrop.
MelPack Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 Hello peardrop The obvious place is the 1901 census online assuming your grandfather was born before the census. Once you have the fix there, you could use the mormons' free 1881 census and after the 1851 census to trace your family history back to the beginning of the nineteenth century - but that is another story. regards Mel
Sue Light Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 The only sure way to confirm a date of birth is by a getting a birth certificate - all other records are likely to be flawed. You're not that likely to find an actual date of birth on service records - much more likely to get an age in years and days, with no guarantee that is was given or recorded correctly. Ilbury Welsh Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 Hello, if you gave me details of your grandfather such as his full name, approx date and place he died and approx age I could work backwards and possibly find his birth. John
