Psmith24 Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 Can anyone help with any info on four sailors, none of whom appear to have papers in the National Archive: William George Masters, able seaman, died 1917, King Alfred (training establishment?), F. J. Neale, CG, W.H. Rosevear, CPO, Edwin John Gostwyck Sargent, Surgeon Lt, HMS Topaze. Also any info on HMS Topaze or HMS Challenger please
kin47 Posted 4 June , 2006 Share Posted 4 June , 2006 Hello William George Masters, George William Masters, or a serving alias do not appear in the ADM 242 ledgers. This would suggest his death occurred outside service, i.e. after discharge. I am finding more and more that many memorials commemorate the service as much as the death itself. per ardua per mare per terram Posted 6 June , 2006 Share Posted 6 June , 2006 An RN surgeon is an officer and so his records will not be online. If his records have been released they will be in ADM 104 at Kew. Both of the ships were cruisers. What dates do you want detals of them, as their use changed in the war? Psmith24 Posted 6 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 6 June , 2006 Sargent died on Topaze on 25/06/1918 and Surgeon Lt-Cmdr Martyn Langford died on 15/12/1918 while serving on Challenger. Any info on either ships at that time would be helpful. Thanks
