Hello Forum Members

I wonder if anyone has heard of or could search their records for the name of a ship called S S Hardinge.

I have just discovered some correspondence between my uncle and his sister and he mentions sailing on this ship.

Thanks for any help....any background info you know the usual would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I recalled a trooper by that name and have found this:

Hardinge: Troopship (RIM), 6520 tons, 423½ ft length and beam 51½ ft. Built by Fairfield 11.8.1900. Armed with 6 x 4.7 in and 6 x 6 pdr. Sold c. 1930.

It's mentioned a number of times by T. E. Lawrence in 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom' IIRC as an important supply/support ship for his band in the Arab revolt.
