paul guthrie Posted 31 May , 2006 Share Posted 31 May , 2006 Many of you are familiar with Horne because of the superb Verdun account, he could be the finest English speaking, well native speaker, of France. This book is a 1 volume history and it's terrific.
Dikke Bertha Posted 31 May , 2006 Share Posted 31 May , 2006 I loved his book on 1870 which I read twice. I loved his book on 1916 which I read 4 times and have two copies of. I loved his book on 1940 which I read twice as well BUT I was upset by his book "How Far from Austerlitz" which I gave away afterwards So I could agree that he is a fine historian of the Franco German conflicts 1870 to 1940 - and leave ot at that. paul guthrie Posted 31 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 31 May , 2006 this one is the whole history of France and I would not have read it if someone else was the author cause I would have assumed it would not be well done, too broad, but it's really worth your time.
