Hi all,

was at the TNA last week and had an look into ADM 137/877 (Grand Fleet reports of proceedings, 1918).

Reason for that:

The german UB 87 sighted Grand Fleet units on:

27.03.1918 / units = 2nd Battle Cruiser Squadron, cruisers and destroyers, which covered scandinavian convoi's O.Z. 19 and H.Z. 19 (operation Z.19)

29.03.1918 / units = 4th Division of Battle Fleet, cruisers and destroyers, which covered scandinavian convoi's O.Z. 20 and H.Z. 20 (operation Z.20)

At 19.35h that day UB 87 fired one torpedo against the third battleship in line (2 funnels), but distance was 2000 m and attack was obviously not discoverd.

Question from me:

Anyone know the "order of battle" for 2nd B.C.S. and 4th Div. of B.F. respectively for march 1918? It's not mentioned within the file :(

Would be easy than to trace the battleship missed by UB 87 (look into the logbooks).

Thanks in advance

Oliver

Not really relevant but I was up at Inverness this week and found a Casualty for the 2nd BCS at Inverness and wondered what it stood for!

Thanks Michael,

so 2nd B.C.S. = AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, INDOMITABLE, INFLEXIBLE

and 4th Div. of B.F. (from 2nd B.S.) = ORION (flagship), MONARCH, CONQUEROR, THUNDERER

Will check ORION's logbook (later :( ) to find out the arrangement for 29.03.18.

Oliver
