Hi

I am hoping one of the pals can help here.My question is how easy is it by number to pinpoint a Royal Field Artillery man by service number to a Battery?

My rank in question is 98619 Shoe Smith John Thomas Tallon. He was entitled to 1915 Trio and theatre of Entry was Egypt.

Can anyone pinpoint this number to a specific unit or is a case to see if it will be on his Medal Roll at Kew?

The numbers from 98611 to 98638 were all Shoe Smiths.

Thanks

Ady

The number stated cannot be identified with any particular unit and only the date of entry to the theatre on his MIC will provide a clue. The actual medal rolls sometimes give a unit previously served with if there had been a change during service.

Some New Army and TF batteries can be ID'd by their number structure but cut off points are far from clearcut contrary to what some published lists would show.
