Guest Montana Posted 17 May , 2006 Share Posted 17 May , 2006 I´ve been trying to find any info on flying goggles, from WW1, but I wasn´t able to find anything interesting... Do you guys know anything about the goggles? How they looked/if they were similiar to the ones in WW2? Maybe even pics? Please post, if that's the case - I'd be very grateful . Dolphin Posted 17 May , 2006 Share Posted 17 May , 2006 Montana You might like to get hold of a copy of the Cormack brothers' British Air Forces 1914-1918 (2) [iSBN 1 84176 002 1 - published by Osprey] which has a section on flying goggles. In essence, there were a number of types, both those supplied by the RFC, RNAS, RAF and AFC, as well as those bought privately. A typical set is shown below. Grovetown Posted 20 May , 2006 Share Posted 20 May , 2006 Herewith an example of the Google Mask Mk II introduced in 1918. Why it is Mk II is a mystery, because apparently there was no pattern difference between them and Mk I. Also these appear tinted. There are statements that tinted goggles were issued (to observers), but also an argument that the tint is just a degeneration of a celluloid layer in the laminate. Best wishes, Grovetown.
