Dawson Posted 16 May , 2006 Share Posted 16 May , 2006 Knowing very little about the RFC, I am hoping someone out there can help me with this man. His name is Robert Gerald Hopwood and he was killed on the 24/8/16. serving with the 70th Squadron. Another member helped me out with his brother who was killed with the Coldstream Guards in 1917, but I don't know anything about this chap, could anybody help me with this? A photo would be fantastic. Thank you, Ian
Dolphin Posted 16 May , 2006 Share Posted 16 May , 2006 Ian Capt Robert Gerald Hopwood MiD (formerly 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade) and Gnr Charles Rapley Pearce (23042 - formerly Canadian Field Artillery) of No 70 Sqn RFC were flying in Sopwith 1½ Strutter A879 when they were killed in action on 24 August 1916. They were on an Offensive Patrol from the squadron's aerodrome at Fienvillers when they were struck by a shell, and left behind by their flight. I hope this is useful.
