Can I ask for any suggestions on this chap

I have a 14-15 star trio to Francis who saw service with the 3rd Salford Pals (19th Batt)

he is listed in the Salford Pals Book, but it has no mention of him being a casualty. Is there

any other reason he would remain a 2nd Lt for all his service ?

Perhaps he was invalided out and, as such, had very short service. You probably need to read his service file @ Kew to get the full answer.

Alternatively, he may have been cr*p at being an officer.

Must say your alternative were my first thoughts on the matter (not wishing to insult the man at all)

having no notes on his MIC regarding an SWB, as you say his doc's will be my next job.
