Cnock Posted 13 May , 2006 Share Posted 13 May , 2006 On 10/8/1917, captain HE READ, flying DH5 (reg.nr B357) with 24 Sqn, was kia near Cambrai. See photo in attachment. I would like to know more about Captain READ, victories,? seems his unit was engaged previously in Flanders. He is buried at Honnechy British Cemetery. medals1976 Posted 13 May , 2006 Share Posted 13 May , 2006 Captain Read was engaged at 5000 feet in aerial combat, his engine failed and he was seen gliding down over Cambrai. according to my sources he was claimed by Vizefeldwebel O Konnecke of Jasta 5. Cnock Posted 13 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 May , 2006 Thank You Medals1976 for the reply, but that info was already known to me. I was not clear enough, but I would like to hear more about his military career, before Read was kia. Thank again and regards, Cnock

Stebie9173 Posted 13 May , 2006 Share Posted 13 May , 2006 I see his MIC gives Leicestershire rather than Lincolnshire Yeomanry: Medal card of Read, Harry Edmond Corps Regiment No Rank Second Lieutenant Leicestershire Yeomanry and Royal Flying Corps Captain Possibly a transcription error... If it is this man, then he could be: Name: Harold Edmund Read Year of Registration: 1882 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Lambeth County: Greater London, London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 547 There was also: Name: Harry Edmond Read Year of Registration: 1872 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Islington County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 237 but he died as a baby in 1873.
