Above 'Theatre of war' and why does he have 2 Regt numbers?

Any help appreciated.

Great, thanks, that makes sense to me, so he got the Silver Wound Badge, which would be recorded on List D/A/283 and the badge number is 410019??

The rest of the writing looks like 'brighton by police' and can't make out the stuff underneath.

The text above 'Theatre of War' states "SWB List D/A/283 Badge No. 410019" and something that suggests he lost the badge and it was subsequently returned by the Police.

SWB (Silver War Badge) was awarded to those soldiers discharged from the service for a number of reasons but most usually from wounds or sickness. Each badge was uniquely identified with a number which, in this case, is shown on the MIC. This doesn't normally happen and you have to use the D/A/283 reference to find it out at the NA, Kew.

He has two Regimental numbers because he was a Territorial Soldier. He was originally numbered 4468 but the entire Territorial Force was renumbered at the beginning of 1917, in this instance he was renumbered 331657 which is in the number range allocated to the 8th Battalion Highland Light Infantry.

Hope this helps.

Steve
