Hello,

I have a medal to an R.A.F recipient and on his Medal Index Card it states previous service in German South West africe as 178141 Trooper C R Bowker 2nd I.H.H. Does anyone know what unit or Regiment this is? I have had no joy with this one and any help is very much appreciated.

Are you sure it's I. H. H. and not I. L. H.?

The 2nd Imperial Light Horse were in German South West Africa (as were the 1st I. L. H.).

Hope this helps.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I have just checked the MIC again and it does say I.H.H. You are probably correct in stating it is 2nd I.L.H as it could be a simple mistake on the MIC. Are there any other units with similar abbreviations?

The only other unit I can think of that could be a possiblity for the H. H. part of the abbreviation (although it doesn't fit the I. H. H.) is HARTIGAN'S HORSE, a Police unit that saw service in South-West Africa.

IMHO I don't think it's them as I can't find any reference to them being sufficiently strong in numbers to warrant a 2nd battalion as it were.
