GrandsonMichael Posted 9 May , 2006 Share Posted 9 May , 2006 Hi Stefan and welcome to this Forum. Re George Kentish Turbefield, 42678. Born in Stepney, Middlesex and enlisted in Stratford, Essex. Residence Forest Gate, Essex. Formerly 37611, Norfolk Regiment. (Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-19, Part 48, The Essex Regiment, 1921.) According to Burrows, The War 1914-1919, 2nd Battalion The Essex Regiment, page 188, the Battalion was near Pacaut Wood somewhere near Bethune (?). On 7 August 1918 the Bn. moved out of these Woods and advanced to Le Cornet Malo, which had been evacuated by the Germans. The 2nd was heavily shelled while entrenching. There is no specific mention of casualties for that day. That's all I'm afraid. Cheers, Michael
