Verrinder Ian Posted 7 May , 2006 Share Posted 7 May , 2006 Does anybody have any information on this chap. I know he was the CO of No.4 Company, B Battalion, Tank Corps, during Cambrai but I've seen nothing else relating to him. What I'm really trying to find out is whether he left any papers in any of the various archives. Major L.S. Henshall was the CO of 5 Company and his archive at the IWM has loads of stuff. Dear old Jager unfortunately seems to keep a much lower profile! Regards, Ian.
delta Posted 8 May , 2006 Share Posted 8 May , 2006 There appear to be two Jagers serving with the Tanks; both from the Liverpool Regiment; The first is Bertram Maurice Jager who is shown as Temp capt with the Heavy Branch of the MGC wef 21 Dec 1916, with seniority 28 Sep 1914, whose medal cards shows him to be a Hussar. The other is Capt ANR Jager (Lt Temp capt ) who was an eqpt offr 25th Mar 1918 then appointed Adjt 27th Sep 1918; having been seconded as a Capt on 22nd Jul 1918. ( I can't find his MIc yet) Stephen
Verrinder Ian Posted 8 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 8 May , 2006 Thanks once again for filling in some gaps in my knowledge. I reckon my man must be Betram Maurice Jager because the 2nd Battalion War Diary (WO 95-113) has the following entry for 17th June 1917: "Capt. JAGER replaced Major BINGHAM as OC 4th Coy". Is there anything else on Betram Maurice? Regards, Ian.

Verrinder Ian Posted 9 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 9 May , 2006 Gentlemen you have excelled! Thanks very much. I'm extremely pleased with the photo, as this is the first of the Tank Corps men I'm tracing who I've managed to get a photo of - thanks alot. Do you chaps think the two Jagers might be related, as Liverpool seems to crop in both cases? There can't be too many unrelated Jagers about. Regards, Ian. Verrinder Ian Posted 10 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 10 May , 2006 Thank again chaps. Yesterday I thought I'd follow up the information relating to B.M. Jager's interest in the business George Jager and Sons. I put the name into Google and immediately got a website deicated to the history of Sugar Refining in the UK! It turns out that George Jager and Sons was a sugar refining company in Liverpool. I've e-mailed the website to see if they can supply any other information about the business and its descendants. Cheers, Ian.
