Coldstreamer Posted 6 May , 2006 Share Posted 6 May , 2006 Hello Ive noticed that some medal index cards carry both pre and post ww1 numbers Pte Hill Coldstream Guards 9985 Lance Corporal Coldstream Guards 9985 Corporal Coldstream Guards 2646681 Corporal and Pte Carroll Coldstream Guards 9141 Private Yet Pte Carroll I know served after WW1 and was awarded a MSM and LSGC So why does Hill have a seven digit number on his MIC - if its on a medal index card is he due other medals ? If not, why put the details on the medal card ? A quick look at the MICs suggests that over a 100 cards for the CG have the seven digit numbers. I looked into a few that only have the long number and they all had LSGC medals awarded Any views ? Ian

SteveE Posted 9 May , 2006 Share Posted 9 May , 2006 Not an answer as such but I have come across this with the Royal Fusiliers as well. Had a quick check of the MIC's and it would appear that there are 882 cards with a 7 digit service number. Now all I have to do is see if they were awarded the LSGC Steve
Coldstreamer Posted 9 May , 2006 Author Share Posted 9 May , 2006 Hello Thanks for the thoughts. Must be some reason or else why would they have bothered. Will have to try and get some papers one day... Ian
Coldstreamer Posted 29 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 29 August , 2006 a related thread here but still no definative answer http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...t=0#entry508220 There are 119 MICs to the CG with 7 dig numbers - assuming the cards also relate to LSGC (and that I know some relate to LSGC issued in the late 1930's ) then thats 119 issued in about 20 years - only 6 per year which seems to low.....but there must be a reason why these men had longer numbers on the cards or why bother to put them there ?
