Could anyone give me any information about Lt Arthur Boultbee. He died on the 17/03/1917. I would be interested in how he died, what he was flying and any other information.

Lt A E Boultbee formerly 3rd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, (photograph below) and AMII Frederick King (61783) were flying in FE 2b A5439 of No 25 Sqn RFC when they were shot down south east of Oppy while on a photographic escort mission. A victory was credited to Ltn Manfred von Richthofen of Jasta 11, who was flying a Halberstadt D.II; it was the 27th of von Richthofen's eventual 80 victories.

For an account of the action, see Norman Franks, Hal Giblin and Nigel McCreery's Under the Guns of the Red Baron, ISBN 1 898697 27 2.

I hope this is useful.

Now I wasn't expecting that!

He was apparently a scholar of King's School, Ely.

The link contains extra details. I would seek permission from the website owner for use:

and Colne memorial:

and a family website:

Thanks for all of the information. I was in Hargrave the other day and thought I would note down the names from the memorial with a view to putting it with the pieces we are doing for Raunds.

Thanks again

I am researching to hopefully produce a book on men from the Huntingdonshire village of Colne, where Arthur Boultbee was born, can you tell me if there is copyright on this photo?

Welcome to the Forum.

I scanned the photograph from Norman Franks, Hal Giblin and Nigel McCreery's Under the Guns of the Red Baron, published byGrub Street, ISBN 1 898697 27 2. The source isn't indicated. I think that the publishers would be the best people to speak to in this case.
