Gunner Bailey Posted 1 May , 2006 Share Posted 1 May , 2006 Hi Egbert. Incredibly I was on the Somme front line today and discussed your grandfather's trunk and the magnificent tale it told with my friend. So for us he lives on. Best wishes Gunner Bailey

Ralph J. Whitehead Posted 1 May , 2006 Share Posted 1 May , 2006 RIP Offizier Stellvertreter Sandrock. Gone but not forgotten. The real impact of the war can be found in the Verlustlisten entry: Verlustlisten No. 1163, Page No. 24,287 14 June 1918. Sandrock, Gottfried, Offz. Stellv. - 22.9. Börnecke, Magdeburg - Gefallen. Such a short entry to commemorate the loss of a life. The true scale of it all can be seen in that more than 24,000 pages of names had already been printed with thousands to follow.
