andy1400 Posted 27 April , 2006 Share Posted 27 April , 2006 I am researching a man on my war memorial and have found some conflicting evidence. The De Ruvigny's Roll says that he won the Military Medal and it was gazetted 1st June 1917 ( he was commisioned in Nov 1917), but on his gravestone it says he won the MSM. Would anyone be able to help me with this? His name was George Henry Hall and he served in the RFC from the start of the War. Thanks Andy

Stebie9173 Posted 27 April , 2006 Share Posted 27 April , 2006 He has a medal card for MID, DCM or MSM, which would imply that it was an MSM not a MM. Description Medal card of Hall, G H Corps Regiment No Rank Royal Flying Corps 1576 Serjeant Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference WO 372/24 Dept Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies Series War Office: Service Medal and Award Rolls Index, First World War Piece Mentions in Despatches, Meritorious Service Medals and Territorial Force Efficiency Medals Here it is. Right date but De Ruvigny's has missed out an "S". London Gazette 4-6-1917 (published 1-6-1917) AWARDED THE MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL for valuable services rendered with the Armies in the Field. 1576 Sjt. G. H. Hall, R.F.C. http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType= Steve.
