David McDonald Posted 27 April , 2006 Share Posted 27 April , 2006 Hello Pals, Trying to find a copy of Courage Past: A Duty Done by Alex Aiken. Does anyone have a copy they might be willing to sell? Or alternatively might be willing to photocopy? My interest in this book is because it covers the actions of the Glasgow Highlanders Battalion of the H.L.I. at High Wood in July 1916. My Grandfathers cousin served with this battalion and was killed in the actions that this book covers. Heres hoping! David.
Dolus Posted 27 April , 2006 Share Posted 27 April , 2006 The newly published "Come On Highlanders!" by Alec Weir (see separate threads) deals with the 9th HLI story in WW1 including therefore the action at High Wood. You may be able to see your relative's name in the appendix to that book which lists about 4,500 of those who served with the battalion in the war, not just the 1,200 or so who were killed.
