HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 23 April , 2006 Share Posted 23 April , 2006 If he didn't serve Overseas &/or apply for a Silver War Badge, then yes it would be common not to find details of him,No Medals therefore No MIC & No application No SWB.{as it had to be applied for}Unless his attestation papers survive then it looks like the trail will be cold. There are a very few "Missing MiC" where Medals are known/Men are known to have served Overseas & No Cards survive,or are filed incorrectly{ie Names spelt wrongly or only Partial or erronous Numbers}
Guest kenneth mcarthur Posted 23 April , 2006 Share Posted 23 April , 2006 mr betts, many thanks.....your answer goes someway to answering this problem.GEORGE HARWOOD was a shoeing smith (maryhill barracks)during ww1 ,I assume he didn't serve overseas. He came from bethnel green and joined the R.F.A.in december 8th 1891!! served in india, south africa before returning to uk and meeting his future wife in glasgow 1904.
