Yes, this is a really nice book. It led me to investigate this Pilgrimage in more detail and I now have a fair bit of memorabilia associated with it including an original Pilgrim's badge and other ephemera plus a personal photo album of the trip. One photo from this album showing the Pilgrim's visit to the Ancre Cemetery now decorates Desmond7's excellent website.

I suspect my Grandfather may have been on this trip but cannot get any hard evidence to confirm it.

Roy

Was this a reprint or an original?

If the former, where did you get in from please?

Regards

Martin

Martin - I have an original of this book and presume Roy has the same. They are not too uncommon. I don't think it has ever been reprinted. I also have the small companion handbook that was issued to the pilgrims with "do's and don'ts", itineraries etc.

Roy - I would be interested in knowing more about your photo albums. One thing shown in mine is that the gents and the ladies were segregated but that the gents seemed to have a good time with the French and Belgian ladies who seemed to be doing their best to be hospitable !

This sounds very interesting as my grandmother (I do not know if accompanied by my grandfather) visited the cemetries at that time. Maybe she was on this or a similar trip. Her father was in the Military Police and I presume he was on active service.

Who pray were the "12 Heroes of Bruges"?

Regards

I think that at the price, £50, I really ought to give it a miss.

Otherwise I might be without a miss(us)!
