Hi

My great Uncle, Jack Welch/Welsh, who died during WW1, was in the Royal Artilley Band based at Woolwich. How can I find out which regiment or battalion he served with?

Regards

Suzie

Hello

I think you have answered some of your own question - "the Royal Artillery" "Band!

They didnt have battalions (batterys ?) but Im not qualified to talk about the Artillery!

Do you know his number at all ? Or any middle names? It will make the medal index card search easier..

Hello Ian

Thanks for replying. As you can probably tell, I know very little about the Army. I have only recently discovered that my family has quite a srong army connection from before WW1.

My great Uncles Birth Cert records his name as John Leslie Russell Welsh born 28/2/1886 in Charlton, Woolwich. I think he was known as Jack Welch, or at least, that's how he signed himself on his last postcard to his brother.

Regards

Suzie
