Greetings All,i was wondering if any Forum Members can shed any more light for me on My G.Fathers Military service in the Great War.These are His Details

And joined the 1st Battalion as part of a Draft on 20.04.1915

His Decorations Are 1915 Star,BW and V Medals. plus he Was Awarded a SWB which is numbered B11834

I personally suspect that He was either Wounded during the Fighting on the Bluff,or slightly later when the 1st moved down to the Somme area, any thoughts or information, ideas or speculation from Forum Members would be very very welcome,as i seem to have come up against a Brick Wall in my puny efforts at finding out anymore about Him.

Have you tried the DCLI museum I think it is still open. I knew a man who was in the fifth battalion but he didnt remember name specifics. Look at this site from the beginning and you find guiddeelines on research mate for regimental movements etc.

all the best. Be interesting to find out how he got his shin scars.

visited the Museum last year and was very dissapointed to find it being run by at the time by a Civvie whose attitude was one of i dont give a ****, he merely directed me to the Museum Library and let me loose on their Books, editions which i already owned most of.The Museum itself is first Class and well worth a visit.Of interest in the Museum is a Uhlan Helmet with a Bullet hole through it,and was taken from its owner by the man who killed him, this German is claimed to be the first one killed by the BEF in the Great war.Sadly in a Pub called the Hole in the Wall in Bodmin are a number of Death Plaques nailed to the Walls of the Bar,they must have been here for years as the Names are completley polished away.As for Grandfathers leg wounds,he died back in 1942,and my Father said that Will refused point blank to talk about his war and had developed a pathological hatred of Authority after His Discharge so much so that He became a Socialist and was disowned by his well to do Family !!!!!!....A real Land fit for Heroes eh ?. <_<
