Barry Hayter Posted 15 April , 2006 Share Posted 15 April , 2006 The war diary I am reading holds a sign off section at the end of each month to reflect the strength of the Battalion but I don't understand what "evacuated" means within it's context. Extract below ... any thoughts? Strength 44 Officers. 1052 OR’s. Sick admissions and evacuations. Admissions 55 OR. Evacuations 15 O.R Total casualties for the month Killed in action 5 OR. Died of wounds 1 OR Wounded to hospital 7 OR. Wounded to duty 4 OR.
John_Hartley Posted 15 April , 2006 Share Posted 15 April , 2006 I'm presuming that this isnt "evacuation" in the sense in which we would normally understand it - i.e. sending someone out of the area. It just doesnt read like that. So, how about it means those returning from sick i.e. the opposite of "admissions" ? John
Barry Hayter Posted 15 April , 2006 Author Share Posted 15 April , 2006 That's a very interesting take which I've not considered. It would make more sense reflecting In and Out. I'd be happy with evacuation meaning 'injured' etc if it wasn't fot that being dealt with as such in the stats.
terryb95 Posted 16 April , 2006 Share Posted 16 April , 2006 My understanding is that it would be a "medavac" from the Bn Loc to a Fd Amb or CCS Terryb West Aust
