On 14 April, 1918, The 14th Royal Warwicks (and 5th Division) were holding a line to the east of Nieppe Forest against determined German attacks and artillery barrage. On 13/14 April the battalion used two and a quarter million rounds of ammunition !

Over this two day period the 14th Warwicks had 56 men killed.
