bart592 Posted 8 April , 2006 Share Posted 8 April , 2006 Does anybody recognise this harbour I think that the ship is Hms St Vincent the training ship but could be wrong photo taken in 1905 If it is Hms St Vincent why are the flags up on her would this be due to a visit from royalty or something else Thanks Bart
delta Posted 8 April , 2006 Share Posted 8 April , 2006 if it is HMS St Vincent, then the harbour is Portsmouth althouhg the buildings to the rear could be in Gosport
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 8 April , 2006 Share Posted 8 April , 2006 Until she was broken up in 1906 HMS St.Vincent was permenantly moored at Haslar Creek, Gosport, which fits in with Delta's identofication of the background as being Gosport. spithead Posted 8 April , 2006 Share Posted 8 April , 2006 If the photo was taken in 1905 the flag dressings would I guess be either for the visit of the French Fleet or for the Centenary of Trafalgar. John
