Helen82 Posted 7 April , 2006 Share Posted 7 April , 2006 Hi, I have been asked by a friend of my brother to find out all I can about his grandfather's service records and medal entitilement from WW1. He would like to purchase a duplicate set if they have been issued. I have downloaded a copy of the medal card index from the NA which gives his details as:- Isaac Farrell RAMC Pte 35335 later Cpl Victory Medal British Medal 1915 Star Theatre of War 1 France date of entry 10. 7. 1915 Does it usually say on the medal card if the medals were issued? Could someone tell me how I can obtain a copy of his service records and where can I obtain a copy of his medals if they have been issued? I live in the Lancashire area so cannot get to Kew myself. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards, Ann
Coldstreamer Posted 7 April , 2006 Share Posted 7 April , 2006 Hello details on cards vary - the medal rolls may well say if/when medals issued - the star roll in my experience gives best results service papers are held at the NA - you could ask here for someone to check or pay a researcher - 40% chance of success if they survived the war and dulpicate medals for ww1 arent issued any more - your best bet is to buy a cheap trio and "pretend" they are the right ones - please dont buy erased medals as it encourages people to loss one mans history - Ian
