Remembered Today:

Elephants

Hi Everbody

Does anybody know the score with regard to the Connaught Rangers and elephant collar badges? In all of the WWI pictures I have seen of my grand dad I have not spotted him wearing elephants.

Were these just for dress uniform or were they restricted to certain battalions or just for officers? I have seen plenty of officer pics where the collar badges were just a repeat of the cap badge.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

I can't answer your question, but I was hoping you could help me.

Is this the elephant collar badge of the Connaught Rangers?

Scale in cms.

Steve,

Collar badges weren't worn on SD tunics until after the war and so it's unlikely you'll see any. Otherwise they were worn with scarlet dress jackets and would have been worn by regular and Militia/Special Reserve battalions as the Connaughts had no T.A. equivalent.

Grantsmil

That collar badge is for the West Riding Regiment. The collar badge of the Connaughts had no "Houda"??.
