buddha Posted 30 March , 2006 Share Posted 30 March , 2006 Hello all. I recently found out that my Grandads brother was killed in France! Private Patrick Parker 40272 RDF. Died of wounds 10/8/1917. I want visit his grave in Mendingham. Would anyone know what action was he likely to have been involved in when he recieved these wounds? Where were his regiment at this time? Is the battlefield far from the grave? Many thanks.

curranl Posted 3 April , 2006 Share Posted 3 April , 2006 Hello Buddha and Welcome to the Forum, Your man has the following entry in Ireland's Memorial Records: Parker, Patrick. Reg. No. 40272. Rank, Private, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1st Battalion; died of wounds, France, August 10th, 1917; born Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. If you would like a copy of his entry send me a PM (Personal Message) with your email address and I'll send it on. I think the 1st Dublins were at Third Ypres (also known as Paschendale) about this time - though others more knowledgeable on the Western Front can correct me if I'm wrong . As your man died of wounds, he might have been wounded some considerable time prior to death. As he was from Mitchelstown, the Munster Fusiliers would have been the obvious regiment to join, but men were often then transferred to other regiments ( I suspect much to their disgust). Regards, Liam.
