Michael Lowrey Posted 30 March , 2006 Share Posted 30 March , 2006 Sorry that I'm a bit late in posting this: The noted German painter Franz Marc died on March 4, 1916 near Verdun. Marc is generally considered one of the most famous artists killed in war, along with August Macke, who fell on September 26, 1914. Both were significant members of the movement known as Expressionism. For a samples of Marx's work, see http://www.albrightknox.org/ArtStart/Marc.html http://www.guggenheimcollection.org/site/a...works_98_0.html

I'm a Marc fan, and was thinking just the other day about him. My wife and I went to his Museum last summer while I was near Munich for a class. The museum was small, but worth the trip. ceebee Posted 1 April , 2006 Share Posted 1 April , 2006 Michael Thanks for this information. I see from the link to the Guggenheim Museum that Marc produced some works titled Sketchbook from the Field. Michael or Paul, do you know whether these works can be seen online? Chris Chris, His "Skizzenbuch aus dem Felde," was published as recently as 1993. I don't have a copy of this, unfortunately. There are a few examples on-line.
