Sutton Veny

Not sure if this is where I should be looking/asking!

My father has found a postcard sent from Sutton Veny, Wilts on 22/9/18 which says

"Just a card for you. I am off to France on the 25th of this month. Good bye from your old pal George in the aif".

No idea who George is - nor who it was sent to...possibly a male relative of mine as found in a box here in NSW, Australia

Not a lot to go on, I know - but I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of where to go from here.

The card has a picture of George on the front but I cant make out any medal numbers or anything - but his ears stick out if that helps (ha) - photo attached.

Hope someone can help!

Cheers

Melinda

Melinda.

Welcome to the forum.

Sutton Veny is in Wiltshire not far from Salisbury Plain where a number of AIF units did their training. Sutton Veny itself was a large base for No 1 Australian Command in 1918 and had a Military Hospital. The local cemetery has 143 AIF graves.

Your picture did not appear with your post - if you have trouble with this email it to Chris (or any one of us) and we will add it for you.

Good luck.
