Manitoba Posted 28 March , 2006 Share Posted 28 March , 2006 I have visited the wartimememories/ripon camp website but it has little to offer re WWI. Considering so many soldiers of Britian and her Empire passed through this camp it is amazing how little information there appears to be about it, 1914-1919. Have even contacted the local press to no avail. Can any pals help with this one?
stevehowarth Posted 18 April , 2006 Share Posted 18 April , 2006 Try a book by David Raw, the 'Bradford Pals', published by Pen and Sword in 2005. It has a chapter on the Battalions' training at Ripon in 1915 and contains several photographs of town and camp. Hope this will be of interest Steve

Graham Stewart Posted 6 July , 2006 Share Posted 6 July , 2006 If I remember correctly Ripon Camp was the home of the Northern Command Labour Centre, Labour Corps, which in 1917 housed 297th & 298th Depot Labour Companies, Labour Corps. Doug Johnson Posted 16 July , 2006 Share Posted 16 July , 2006 There are accounts of returning prisoners at Ripon (Ernie Stevens, Jack Rogers & Bill Easton) in "Prisoners of the Kaiser" by Richard van Emden which should still be in print.
