BRONFAY Posted 28 March , 2006 Share Posted 28 March , 2006 When trawling through the MIC online I have come across various prefixes on regimental numbers eg A/1001, B/382191 (Army Service Corps) PW/2467 (Middx Regiment) & T/3661(Royal Engineers) Can anyone throw light on their meaning. Is it something to do with the soldiers unit (hence the inclusion).
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 28 March , 2006 Share Posted 28 March , 2006 PW is 1st & 2nd Bns Public Works Battalion {18th/19th Bns} Middlesex Regt.~"Pals" Battalions raised from those Employment areas. The other prefixes relate to the Branches of the ASC/RE the man served with I think~others will no doubt confirm.
Pte1643 Posted 28 March , 2006 Share Posted 28 March , 2006 A = ASC Old Army Special Reserve. B = ASC Special Reserve. There is NO "T" prefix for the Royal Engineers, as such, possibly "Territorial". The possiblities are... T = Army Service Corps Horse Transport T = Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Tyne Division T = Army Ordnance Corps T = Territorial Force
